8 week update

I had my 8 week ultrasound yesterday. I was so nervous. Of course, Jay was cool, calm, and confident that everything was going to be okay. We got to the imagining place and was called back to the room. The ultrasound tech was very nice and could tell I was nervous. She told me what she was going to do…she was going to look around first and if everything looked normal she would put what she was seeing on the tv. I watched her face so closely to see if anything was wrong and then after what seemed like an eternity she got up and turned on the tv. And oh my gosh it was so amazing! We could see what now looked like an actual little baby with little arms and little legs. She showed us where the heart was fluttering and I could see it clearly and while we was watching the heart flutter the baby started wiggling around and moving its little arms. I definitely was misty eyed.

And…here is a picture of our little peanut…or as we are currently calling him/she T-Rex (because of his little arms)

Then, she went about looking around and measuring everything. While doing all of this she told me that I have a retroverted/tilted uterus. No one has ever told me this and I know that sometimes, depending on how the uterus is pointed, it can cause fertility issues. My aunt had the same thing and had to practically stand on her head to get pregnant. When I told my mom she said “It’s a miracle that you even got pregnant with all of these odds against you. This baby was definitely meant to be.” Yes, yes it was and is.

I asked if we would be able to hear the heartbeat and she says they don’t do that until later. Sigh. But everything looked perfect and baby was measuring exactly where he/she needed to be. Also, I had her confirm that there is only one baby and trust me she looked everywhere and there is only one.

After the ultrasound I went over to my doctor’s office to see the nurse practitioner for my initial pregnancy confirmation appointment. She gave me some samples of prenatals to see if I like one in particular and if so she would write a script for that. She gave me some information like what medicine I can take, what activities I can do, what things I can’t eat, etc. Then she reviewed my ultrasound and said everything looked good and answered our questions and then did a quick pelvic exam. Everything was okay.

She ordered the initial blood work I guess you get when you are pregnant (check levels, make sure you don’t have HIV, hep b, and other infectious diseases), an urine analysis, and then she ordered a glucose test. I guess she wanted to go ahead and see where I am at because of my PCOS and insulin resistance.

I went down to the lab and had to drink that nasty drink and wait an hour for them to draw all the blood work. Of course they had issues with my veins, they always do. But finally with using a smaller needle they were able to get the 6 vials of blood needed.

Now, I am NOT waiting patiently for the results of all the blood work. I have a fear that I am not going to pass the glucose test and worried about my iron levels because I am anemic. I’m praying that everything will be okay.

Glad to hear everything went well. And it is so exciting to see the baby! Things should get less nerve-wrecking from here on out.
I go in for my 8 week check up next Tuesday so I’m hoping to be able to finally see my little peanut!
